Jess Redden: How To Keep Stress Levels At Bay

I’m back with my third installment of blog posts and this weeks focus is on self-love. It’s fair to say that when your mind isn’t in the right place, your body can suffer as well. Stress plagues our lives on a daily basis and there is a link between the chronic inflammation stress induces with certain disease states. In order to prevent the negative cascade of events stress causes on our bodies I want to share with you some of my top tips that I utilize to keep stress levels at bay!

1. Exercise

If you follow me you’ll know I am quite an active person. I love the feeling you get after a workout. Those are endorphins or ‘happy hormones’ that seek to dampen down our stress response. When we are stressed our bodies release what is known as the ‘stress’ hormone or cortisol. Exercising each day has been found to reduce cortisol levels as well as boosting our feel-good hormones. Why not start a walking club with a few friends where you aim to get together to motivate and encourage one another this month?

2. Treat yourself

This does not have to break the bank! Every Tuesday for at least the last year I indulge in ‘treat yourself Tuesday’ so every week I plan what it is that I am going to treat myself to, this ranges from a donut to getting my nails done, I am always in a good mood on a Tuesday and I think my little mantra has a large part to play in that!

If you are looking to treat your skin I would recommend the Trilogy Rosehip Oil it is such a treat for your skin. The lightweight, non-greasy oil contains omegas and antioxidants to restore optimum skin health. It is best used to minimize appearance of wrinkles, smooth the skin and restore moisture to dry and dull complexions.

3. Reduce fatigue

Sleep is so pivotal to daily functioning I cannot stress enough the importance of getting sufficient hours of rest! Some simple measures to a restful night include not eating after 8pm, leaving all screens off after 9pm, creating a ‘sleep schedule’ if you get yourself into a set routine of going to bed at the same time you might find it easier to fall asleep. Some supplements that are postulated to induce a healthy nights sleep include magnesium-based supplements.

Healthy magnesium levels protect metabolic health, stabilize mood, keep stress in check, promote better sleep, and contribute to heart and bone health. Insomnia is a common symptom of magnesium deficiency. People with low magnesium often experience restless sleep, waking frequently during the night. Maintaining healthy magnesium levels often leads to deeper, more sound sleep. Magnesium plays a role in supporting deep, restorative sleep by maintaining healthy levels of GABA, a neurotransmitter that promotes sleep. Research indicates supplemental magnesium can improve sleep quality, especially in people with poor sleep.

4. Zenfore

During my exams last year I started taking the Zenflore probiotic which is postulated to support your mind and body during busy and demanding periods. Its been clinically studied in people with everyday stress and shown to reduce the level of our stress hormone;Cortisol. It contains a unique blend of 1714-Serenitas culture as well as B vitamins which can contribute to mental performance and reduction in tiredness and fatigue.

5. Gratitude

Even in the toughest of times, there is always something we have to be grateful for and it’s usually the things you take for granted. Take a second to appreciate the important things in life. Make a list to look at so when you need a reason to push forward it’s right in front of you. On a Sunday I look to jot down a few things Iwas greatest for the previous week and also prospectively looking forwar dto the week ahead and noting the things I’m excited for these really are as mundane as bin day Wednesdays!! But stil it is my happy thing and no one can take it away form me!
