From established cosmetic houses, couturiers to celebs, August was a busy month for new fragrance launches!
One of the biggest launches was Giorgio Armani’s Sì. With Cate Blanchett as the ambassador, Sì is chic, voluptuous, intense and soft, a scent that lingers on the skin and enchants the senses. The perfume combines 3 notes: blackcurrant nectar, modern chypre, and blond wood musk with touches of freesia and May rose.
Haute Courtier, Elie Saab released a new addition to his fragrance collection, Intense. The thinking behind his fragrance family is that each one represents a different time of the day, with the original Le Parfum representing midday, Eau de Toilette early morning and Intense, the time before the sun sets. And this reflected in the orange/amber hue of the fragrance itself. As you would expect from a fragrance with a name like Intense, this is an ultra feminine and sensual scent – with accords of orange blossom, rose honey, ylang ylang, patchouli and amber accord.
From Lancôme, there is La Vie Est Belle Eau Légère. Eau Légère is a new interpretation of La Vie Est Belle for Summer 2013 – this fragrance is a soothed, refreshed version of the original, so perfect for warmer days when a lighter scent is called for. Like the original, this scent has black currant, chocolate praline, vanilla, jasmine & iris.
On August 21st, Calvin Klein launched his lastest fragrance for women, Downtown with actress Rooney Mara as the face of the campaign. Downtown is a floral woody fragrance, with notes of Italian lemon, bergamot & Tunisian neroli, green pear, aquatic plum & gardenia petals.
Another ode to ultra femininity is Chloé’s latest release, Roses de Chloé. Chloé as a fashion house is renowned for romantic, ultra feminine fashion and they have stayed true to the ethos of the brand with their newest fragrance release. This fresh, wearable rose scent is said to be inspired by a walk in a Parisian rose garden, and notes include bergamot, damask rose, magnolia, white musk and amber.
For boys, August saw a new fragrance release from Gucci, Made to Measure. This is an intensely masculine, sophisticated scent and is inspired by the Gucci made to measure suit. Gucci deems this as ‘an exacting fragrance for the man who wants the very best’, and if spicy, oriental scents are your thing, then Made to Measure is one for you to check out.
Another one for the boys is Just Cavalli For Him. Launched as the male counterpart to last years, Just Cavalli, For Him is a leather, woody scent with notes of pimento, vetiver and leather.
Nowadays it seems like a signature fragrance is a must for all celebs and August saw some more additions, including The Key from Justin Bieber. Tagged as energetic, sexy and refreshing, The Key has notes of juicy fruit, sensual musk, exotic woods and vanilla.
Oscar winning actress Halle Berry has been building quite a collection of fragrances and in August she introduced a sixth scent to her fragrance family – Exotic Jasmine. She has called this ‘a modern take on a timeless ingredient’, and this fragrance is a sensual combination of jasmine blossoms, violet, neroli, jasmine sambac & white cedar.
Finally social media has been abuzz with the hashtage #KillerQueen for the past few weeks, as another big launch this month was Katy Perry’s latest fragrance, Killer Queen. Styled as playful, sophisticated, powerful & edgy – this scent has notes of wild berries, dark plum, bergamot, velvety red flower, jasmine sambac, cashmere, patchouli and praline.
And next month looks just as busy for fragrance launches with scents due from Jean Paul Gaultier, Burberry, Joop, Davidoff….and One Direction.
